Le Soir

Talking of Belgian press online. Le Soir recently redesigned and are probably the best effort as far as code and web standards go in this country’s media. They’ve still got a lot of work to do but at least they’re heading in the right direction unlike many others who’re still coding like it’s still 1998. That’s a whoppingly huge (and unnecessarily complex) stylesheet they’re including in every page. Sadly, they’re also still very much stuck in table-based layout land. And, last but not least, half the validation errors could be avoided by simply reading up a little on XHTML.

Hehe… it’s about to go through a redesign (we’re staying minimal though). It doesn’t fully validate though because of non-validating external content being pulled in. The next step is trying to get that to change.
yeah it’s great to have a fully validated htmlisation coded process ISO2004+, now they (Le Soir) ‘just’ need a content which is different from La Dernière Heure!

The best standard-based corporate website I saw in belgium so far is Scarlet’s… I really wonder who’s responsible for that? ;)
It’s also designed with htminimalism in mind which is cool in this country full of baroque-loving “designers” toying with dreamweaver!
