Textpattern

one.point.zero 2.0 logoThis site has been viewable in its current incarnation for nearly 4 years now and it’s well and truly time for a fresh coat of paint. So I’ve embarked on a complete rebuild of the whole shebang. I just finished rewriting the PHP backend from scratch and am now attacking the visual side of things.
Why did I write the backend myself when so many off-the-shelf solutions are available? The choice of quality “blogging” tools is certainly much larger than when I initially built one.point.zero but none of them do exactly what I want and I needed some PHP practice anyway.
Among the tools I looked at, Texpattern and Wordpress stand out as the most powerful and flexible solutions, I’d recommend them to anyone not going the DIY route. The ubiquitous Movable Type felt like a disjointed patchwork of perl scripts to me but so many satisfied users can’t be wrong I guess.
So give me a few more days (weeks?) and version 2.0 will see the light of day.

agree with you for textpattern colin, and about handcrafting

Looked at Pivot yet?

Yup, isn’t even close to what I need. Great solution if you don’t have a database though.

Good luck with the fine tuning Colin. A new start for another 4 years of great compatibility? (As I’m posting this message from my mobile phone when other websites created “yesterday” are still you know what).

I like your world domination logo anyway.

To me the logo looks like a duck split in two, then flatten, with a nose ring, and it’s holding a brush and an apple. A Chinese triad symbol? Just kidding, I love the website, especially since I can post comments from my wristwatch while trekking in Tibet ;-)

Looking forward to the new design, but I’m quite fond of the existing site. Any chance you’ll be archiving it as well as putting it out to pasture? :o)

Rob Foxx on 10/05/2004 at 04:33

I don’t have the original files anymore. I’ll archive what’s there though.
